Adédèjí, from Lagos, plays jazz-funk with Yoruba roots.

Ernesto Djédjé updated the Côte D’Ivoire sound in the late ’70s before his untimely death in 1983.

Maha was vocalist for Salah Rajab’s Cairo Jazz Band and made her solo album in 1979.


Al-Qasar, from the Paris suburb of Barbès, play self-titled “Arabian fuzz”.

Shiran is from a Yemeni background, based in Tel Aviv.

Liraz, of Iranian heritage, recorded with Iranian musicians in Istanbul.

Shotnez are a quartet formed in New York, based in Tel Aviv.

Tau and the Drones of Praise are led by Irishman Shaun Mulrooney, resident in Berlin.

Wesli is a Haitian musician based in Montreal exploring the various styles of his homeland.


Antonis Antoniou, of Cypriot trio Monsieur Doumani, releases another compelling sonic exploration.

Belgian violinist and composer, Catherine Graindorge, enlists Iggy Pop for some atmospheric spoken word.

Planet Drum features Mickey Hart and Zakir Hussein in top-level percussion ensemble.


Malawi Mouse Boys were discovered as snack merchants by producer Ian Brennan in 2011.

Minyeshu is an Ethiopian singer, resident in the Netherlands.

Ana Alcaide from Toledo is a singer and player of the violin and nickelharpa.

Ustad Saami is the master of surti singing, an ancient form of Pakistani Sufi song.

Purbayan Chatterjee, sitar master, joins forces with Rakesh Chaurasia on bansuri flute.
