On this week’s programme:


Gyedu-Blay Ambolley plays original compositions and jazz classics in a highlife style.

Mukambo and NYP Records have compiled a third compilation of afrobeat from around the world.

Iftin Band plied their trade in the Al-Uruba Hotel in 1980’s Mogadishu.

Kimi Djabate is a multi-instrumentalist from Guinea-Bissau, based in Lisbon.


Vieux Farka Touré joins forces with US trio Khruangbin to pay a tribute to his father, Ali.

Majid Bekkas, Moroccan guembri and oud player, has a distinguished jazz-fusion career.

Iranian composer Kiya Tabassian formed Constantinople in Montreal, and recruited Tunisian chanteuse Ghalia Benali for the current album.


Gaye Su Akyol, who emerged from the Istanbul underground, has a fourth album on the way.

Shotnez are an instrumental quartet based in Tel Aviv.

Sababa 5, another quartet from Tel Aviv, play synthesiser-led grooves.

Adrian Sherwood provides dub reggae grooves for female singers from around the globe.

Italian dub producer, Paolo Baldini, remixes the New Zealand reggae outfit L.A.B.


Dogo is from Togo, playing the sounds of his native Lomé.

Nyati Mayi, originally from the DRC, joins forces with DJ Sofa aka Astral Synth Transmitters.

Dawda Jobarteh, Gambian kora player, joins trumpeter Gunnar Halle in praise of a Norwegian island.

Spanish trio, including singer Celeste, pay tribute to the great Chavela Vargas.
