Rokia Koné, also from Mali, goes head-to-head with Irish beat-maker producer Jacknife Lee.

Orlando Julius, sax-player and singer, a pioneer of afrobeat, has left us at the age of 79. R.I.P.


Avalanche Kaito are the combination of a Burkinabé multi-instrumentalist and a Brussels noise-punk duo.

Congotronics International is Konono No. 1 and Kasai Allstars, plus some Westerners of common cause; the album was 11 years in the making.

Africa Negra are from São Tomé & Principe with a fifty-year career and more to come.

Satellites are a Turkish group with a retro style, based in Tel Aviv.

Noori & His Dorpa Band represent the Beja culture of coastal Sudan.


Combo Chimbita are New Yorkers with roots in Colombia and the Caribbean.

Juanita Euka is a Congolese-born, Buenos Aires-raised, and London-based singer, featured in several bands.

Bareto are a Peruvian band with a cumbia style and a hint of psychedelia.

Stephanie Santiago is a Colombian London-based singer in the Movimientos stable.

Analog Africa’s “Saturno 2000” focusses on Mexico’s “rebajada” movement of slowed-down cumbia.

Jason Tamba is singer-guitarist from DR Congo, now based in LA.


Misha Sultan is a producer from Siberia, recently exiled.

Les Fils Canouche are an acoustic jazz-folk outfit with oud, clarinet and accordion.

Sirom are a Slovenian acoustic trio with an experimental and improvisatory approach.

Max ZT is an American hammered dulcimer artist who has worked in Senegal and India.

Catrin Finch is a Welsh harpist, and this is her third collaboration with kora player Seckou Keita.
