Solomane Doumbia, percussionist and arranger for Salif Keita, traces routes to Nigeria.

Smithsonian’s “Ears of the People” highlights the gourd-banjo music of Senegal and Gambia.

Reggae-wise - Yann Loisel is a Frenchman based in Berlin, Marcus Gad is from New Caledonia.

Zion Head is Jamaican, now based in France, and Tanya Stephens is a Jamaican star.

Lee Perry is the legendary Lee Perry.


Kosmo Sound are dub adventurers from Ghent in Belgium.

Didon is the Tunisian-American duo of Carmen Rizzo and Meriem Ben Amor.

Stick in the Wheel are gritty folkers from East London, and Trials of Cato are English and Welsh folk.

Baton Bleu are the French indie folk duo of Gautier and Maria.

Jesse Buckley, actress, and Bernard Butler, Suede, are in harmonious partnership.

Spanish composer Raül Refree has soundtracks, meditations, traditions and experiments.

Bella Hardy is a contemporary English folk artist revisiting the tradition.
