Moulay Ahmed El Hassani plays an updated trad with electronic beats.

Hossam Gania is the son of famed gnawa maestro Maalem Mahmoud Gania.

“Jedba” brings Sufi singers and players from all over Morocco to Marrakech.


The female singers of Tartit, from Timbuktu, have a sound predating the Touareg guitar boom.

Frafra is the high energy music from North-Eastern Ghana.

Vula Viel are a jazz-world group based around Ghanaian percussion and xylophone.

Moiizah are Madagascan singer and songwriter, Rivo Noarivelo, and his Norwegian band.

Malian ngoni wizard Bassekou Kouyate, with his wife and band, present their fifth album.


Leyla McCalla is an American folk musician of Haitian heritage.

Djafer Youssef is a Tunisian oud-player, composer and singer.

Nasser Houari also plays oud, in a duo with pianist Jean-Philippe Collard-Neven.


Kelly Thoma, a protege of Ross Daly, is an exponent of the Cretan lyra.

Kitka are a women’s ensemble from Oakland, California, singing songs from Eastern Europe.

Baton Bleu are a French acoustic blues-folk duo with unusual instrumentation.

Lionel Loueke, from Benin, is a highly regarded jazz guitarist.


Tigran Hamasyan is an Armenian genius of the piano who played a remarkable multi-genre gig in the NCH in Dublin next week.

Le Trio Joubran are a Palestinian trio of oud-playing brothers.
