On this week's programme:


“Saigon Supersound” is Vietnamese pop from the early ’70s.

Gaye Su Akyol represents the contemporary underground sound of Istanbul.

Delgres are a trio, inspired by Mississippi blues with links to Guadeloupe.

Richard Thompson is a legend in UK folk-rock songwriting.


Gecko Turner is a Spanish musician and producer with a dance-floor ethos.

Bixiga 70 are a 9-piece Sao Paulo instrumental big band launching their fourth album and coming to the Sugar Club this coming Sunday.

Vieux Farka Touré, son of the late Ali Farka Touré, also comes to the Sugar Club this month.

Amira Kheir has a Sudanese and Italian background, and incorporates jazz and soul in her singing style.

Bokanté are a multinational outfit, led by Michael League of Snarky Puppy.


The Amsterdam Klezmer Band join forces with Hungary’s Söndörgö.

Dobranotch, from St Petersburg, celebrate 20 years of Gypsy sounds.

Vigüela are preserving and celebrating the folksongs of the Toledo/La Mancha area of Spain.

Ann O’aro is a powerful and sensitive singer from La Réunion.

Kaia Kater traces her roots to the Caribbean island of Grenada.


Tautumeitas are a group of female singers and musicians from Latvia.

Punch Brothers play intricate contemporary bluegrass and are in the Concert Hall next month.

We finish with four highly accomplished UK female folk voices - Kitty McFarland, Olivia Chaney and the incomparable Norma Waterson with daughter, Eliza Carthy.
