“Cameroon Garage Funk” is a compilation of ’70s bands recorded in Yaoundé in unorthodox conditions.

“Solid Gold” is the posthumous album from the original Jamaican DJ/toaster U-Roy, here in duet with Big Youth.


Altin Gün are a Dutch-Turkish band with a new bandcamp release raising money for environmental charities.

Bob Holroyd is UK electronic composer now signed to the Real World X label.

Multumult are a Bucharest-based quartet of folk and electronica.

Karkhana are a collective of Middle-Eastern free experimentalists recorded live in Holland.


Tarwa N-Tiniri are a young Tuareg band based in Southern Morocco.

“Hanin” is a collection of pre-war Syrian field recordings by Michel Gasco.

“Henna” is a compilation of young female Palestinian singers on a Norwegian label.

The Habibi Funk label has a new guide to archive recordings from the Arab world.

Natacha Atlas is a pioneer of Western and North African fusion.


In the Irish corner:

No Crows are a Sligo outfit featuring Steve Wickham and Oleg Ponomarev.

Lunatraktors are not Irish, but play British, Irish and Australian folk in a stripped down version.

Marie Fielding is a Scottish-born fiddler of Irish stock.


Cosmo Sheldrake is a son of author and biologist, Rupert, with musical settings for birdsong.

Alice Coltrane recorded sacred chants for her spiritual community back in the 1980s, now released.
