Judging by the new album, “Black Times”, Seun Kuti will be bringing his father’s intensity as well as his father’s band to the Sugar Club for two nights at the end of April.

Durand Jones is a young saxophonist-turned-singer with an old-soul heart.

The golden age of Ethiopian music gets another visitation thanks to Lebanese DJ Ernesto Chahoud.


Amsterdam’s Nordanians are a jazzy cross-cultural mix of guitar, fiddle and tabla, and will demonstrate their skills in the Workman’s Club this Friday courtesy of the IMC.

M.Doumani are the Cypriot sharp-shooting trio - top of the Transglobal chart this month.

George Xylouris plays the fastest Cretan lute heard on these programmes, with Jim White keeping up on drums.

WoWaKin are a trio playing Polish village music with modern arrangements.

Eva Salina, and accordionist Peter Stan, devote their new album to the music of the late Roma diva, Vida Pavlovic.


The late trumpeter, bandleader and activist, Hugh Masakela, gets a new posthumous showcase of his impressive early career.

The Botswana guitarists show their mettle on “I’m not here to hunt rabbits”.

Djénéba & Fousco are contemporary traditional Malian gold on voice and guitar.


Spiro have released their tribute to the English folk-singer Bob Copper - “The Copper Suite”.

Brigid Mae Power gave a captivating performance in the Bello Bar last week.

Anna and Elizabeth coat their new collection of Appalachian song in ambience and atmosphere.

The Gloaming have preserved for posterity their record-breaking National Concert Hall run.
